Blueberry Boy Bait

It’s been a little while since our last recipe and I thought it would be fun to do something sweet! We have a lot of fruit occupying the branches in our yard so I’ve been making a lot of things with blueberries and raspberries this month. The dogs love to graze on anything low growing (see Strider in the picture below) while we try to keep up and harvest all the berries on the tops of the plants. Here’s one of my favorites, Blueberry Boy Bait! Just a heads up this recipe serves 12 generously.


Main Ingredients:

  • 2 cups and 1 teaspoon of all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 16 tablespoons of unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup blueberries

Topping Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and adjust oven rack to the middle position. Grease and flour 13×9 inch baking pan.

1. Whisk two cups of flour, baking powder, and salt together in a medium bowl.

2. With an electric mixer, beat butter and the sugars on a medium-high speed until fluffy, approx. 2 minutes.

3. Add the eggs and mix until incorporated. Then scrape down the bowl.

4. Reduce speed to medium and slowly add in 1/3 of the flour mix. Then add half the milk. Repeat several times until all the flour and milk has been slowly added.

5. Toss blueberries with the 1 teaspoon on flour.

6. Using a rubber spatula gently fold the blueberries into the batter and then spread into the prepared pan.


1. Scatter blueberries over the top of the batter.

2. Stir sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl and sprinkle over your batter.

3. Bake for 45-50 minutes.

4. Once done let it cool for 20 minutes, then turn out and place on serving platter, topping side up.
