C.E.T. Enzymatic Oral Hygiene Chews

My dogs (all retrievers) and I are all big fans of C.E.T.dental chews. Krypto, Ripley, and Boomer think of them as yummy treats (they get SUPER excited whenever they hear me open the bag!) and I consider them a convenience and a money saver.

Let me explain. Several years ago our veterinarian pointed out that Krypto had a lot of plaque accumulating on his teeth. She gave us three options for cleaning them: 1) daily tooth brushing, 2) cleaning under anesthesia, or 3) dental chews. Krypto did not even want to open his mouth for the vet to examine his teeth, so I knew that daily brushing was not an option for us. The price we were quoted for a dental cleaning was significantly more than the price of dental chews, so I decided to give the chews a shot.

C.E.T. dental chews are poultry flavored beef hide that can be given to your dog as often as daily. They have an abrasive texture, as well as a natural antiseptic that work to reduce plaque and loosen tartar. They also help satisfy your dog’s natural urge to chew.

I started off giving the chews to Krypto twice a week and saw a marked improvement in a few months. On our return visit to the vet, she noted that the plaque on his teeth had decreased significantly. Now, the chews have basically become the dental maintenance program for all our dogs. Our vet checks their teeth at every visit and has never mentioned the need for a cleaning again. Did I mention that my dogs love these chews? The most work I have to do to keep their teeth clean is open up a bag of chews and hand them out. (I wish it was this easy to keep my kid’s teeth clean.)

Are there downsides to using these chews? I’ve been using them for several years and haven’t found one yet. I had been advised that they could cause stomach upset if used daily, so my dogs only get them a few times per week.

About the Author ()

Jill is mom to three retrievers. Krypto (a black lab mix) is very laid back & only gets excited when it’s time to eat. Ripley (a pure bred golden retriever) is the typical happy, always “ready to play” golden. Boomer (a golden retriever/English setter) is the baby of the group. He loves to go for rides in the car and follows Jill from room to room around the house.
