The Greater Pittsburgh Labrador Retriever Club was formed in 1995 by a handful of dedicated Labrador fanciers. To date we are the only AKC licensed Labrador Retriever Specialty club in Pennsylvania. The club is comprised of a variety of members with backgrounds in conformation showing, hunting and hunting retriever tests, obedience, agility and even pet therapy. Many of our members are dedicated to having dual purpose Labradors and are active in both the show ring and the field.

Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Gander Mountain in Moon Township. We also get together informally on the last Sunday of each month to work our dogs in the field. Field training days are very popular and from spring to fall we work on the concepts needed for waterfowling and hunting retriever tests. Fall and winter our members work their dogs in upland type scenarios. Guests are welcome at our events and are encouraged to attend the meetings as well as training days.

Since the Labrador Retriever is the most popular breed of dog in the United States, it is very important that we continue to educate the public about the Labrador Retriever and protect the quality of the breed in the Greater Pittsburgh area. We advocate ethical breeding and responsible dog ownership.

About the Author ()

Lorraine has owned Labradors for over 20 years and has bred them about half that time. A good day for Lorraine is experiencing the unbridled joy of her labs greeting her (in the morning, after work, or even after a short trip to the store), witnessing the pure happiness of her labs in the field retrieving or exploring on a hike, and snuggling with (or under) them on the couch at night. A great day is a good day (just described) plus having a litter of puppies around!
