Sandy Beaches – A Labrador Rescue Story

I am a proud breeder of Labrador Retrievers under the kennel name Misty Mountain Labradors. We take great pride in the fact that there is always a forever home with us for our dogs no matter what their circumstances. None of our dogs have experienced a shelter, thank goodness. That said there are many dogs who do not have such fortunate circumstances. This is where rescue comes into the picture. I am a strong believer in the importance of rescue and I love to hear stories about how great retrievers rise up from oftentimes tragic circumstances to find great homes with wonderful people. For this reason we like to highlight these retrievers, whenever possible, in the pages of Retriever Life.

I ran into Sandy Bireley and her dog Sandy (Sandy Beaches RAE3, BN, CGC) at the 2012 Labrador Retriever Club National Specialty at Purina Farms in St. Louis, MO. Judy told me about what a wonderful weekend she was having with Sandy who qualified in Rally Advanced, Rally Excellent, and Beginner Novice Obedience. Judy then told me the story of Sandy and what a rough life she had before finally they found each other. I asked Judy if she might take some time and share her experiences with rescue and she was happy to oblige.

Hi, I am Toni Leitão! I am one of the people who came up with this crazy idea for Retriever Life. Retrievers are my life and passion. Oh and I like long walks in the park (especially in the rain) and watching a movie with my Labrador "pillow".
