MMMM… Good!

You should know this about me: I love to bake. After spending much of November and December baking Christmas cookies for friends and family, I needed to turn my baking sights elsewhere.

I decided to bake treats for my other group of loved ones, my dogs. I am smiling as I type this, because it was so much fun for me to make these dog treats. My children helped me mix, roll and cut the cookies. Our house smelled great while they were baking. Since we used ingredients from our refrigerator and pantry, they are also fit for human consumption. My older son judged them “delicious!”. We did save some for the dogs and they enjoyed them as well.

Putting These Dog Treats Together

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Peel and chop the carrots and sweet potato. Put the chopped vegetables in a small pot, cover with water
and boil until fork tender. Drain the excess water and puree or mash until you have a smooth consistency.
In a large bowl, mix the puree with the garlic and eggs. Add the dry ingredients and mix until fully
incorporated. At this point it may be easier to knead the dough with your hands.

Roll the dough to 1/4″ on a generously floured board. Cut with a 3″ cookie cutter. Place the treats on a
baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Mix the egg white and water to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash on the cookies.

Bake for 45 minutes.

Store in an airtight container for up 7 – 10 days.

Makes 18 3″ treats.

Good Dog!

These dog treats are great for giving your good dog a healthy alternative to the usual store bought fare. So get your chef’s hat on and heat up the oven! You Retriever wants you to make some right now!
